Cervinia is preparing for a revolution in Alpine skiing with the launch of Cervino The One ski lift. Announced on August 22, this ambitious €200 million project will reshape the way skiers and visitors experience the Alps. The state-of-the-art 3S gondola will link Breuil-Cervinia to Plateau Rosa in only 17 minutes, cutting travel time by more than half compared to today’s 50 minutes.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and finish in 2030. Once completed, this futuristic lift will combine the efficiency of a cable car with the comfort of a gondola, featuring long spans, steep gradients, and cabins capable of carrying 30 passengers. The line will stretch for nearly six kilometers, with a total elevation gain of 1,427 meters.
Capacity, Speed, and Comfort
Cervino The One ski lift has been designed with record-breaking performance in mind. With an hourly capacity of 3,000 passengers, wind stability up to 100 km/h, and speeds reaching 8 meters per second (around 29 km/h), it promises smooth and reliable transport even in challenging conditions.
The 56 Symphony model cabins will feature 360-degree panoramic windows, heated leather-style seating for 24 people, internal ski racks, anti-slip flooring, multimedia screens, and advanced communication systems. Everything has been planned to maximize comfort and safety for skiers traveling to the Plateau Rosa at 3,458 meters.
A Sustainable and Secure Future
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the Cervino The One ski lift project. Thanks to DirectDrive motors, which run at just 33 rotations per minute, energy consumption will be reduced, while noise emissions will stay below 85 decibels — remarkable for an installation of this size.
On the safety side, the lift will include four independent drive systems (main, reserve, recovery, and emergency) as well as three braking systems, ensuring minimal risk of stoppages even during power outages.
Stations and Infrastructure
The new lift will not only transform the ride but also the stations themselves. The base station at 2,031 meters will become a modern hub with ticket offices, rental services, shops, bars, and restaurants. The mid-station at Plan Maison (2,550 meters) will integrate with existing lifts and include restaurants, commercial areas, and even an underground automated warehouse for cabins and equipment.
At the top, the Plateau Rosa station (3,458 meters) will be carved into the rock, directly connecting with Switzerland’s Klein Matterhorn facilities, completed in 2023.
Architecturally, the project will blend stone, reinforced concrete, glass, and wood for a sleek yet natural finish, with zinc-titanium roofing and photovoltaic panels to generate clean energy.
The Investment Behind Cervino The One
The Cervino The One ski lift is backed by an investment of approximately €200 million. The Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta has already allocated €70 million, while Cervino Spa will cover the rest through self-financing, bank loans, and recent strong financial performance.
Construction will be led by Leitner, a leader in ropeway technology, alongside a consortium of local companies handling civil works.
Why It Matters for Skiers and Visitors
By 2030, Cervinia will no longer just be a top ski destination — it will become a symbol of modern Alpine tourism. The Cervino The One ski lift will drastically improve accessibility, enhance comfort, and provide a sustainable model for future mountain transport.
For skiers, this means less time commuting and more time on the slopes. For visitors, it represents an easier and more enjoyable way to discover the beauty of the Alps.
Final Thoughts
The unveiling of Cervino The One ski lift is more than just the announcement of new infrastructure. It’s a bold vision of the future, blending innovation, sustainability, and Alpine tradition. By 2030, Cervinia will stand at the forefront of world-class mountain resorts, ready to welcome thousands of visitors in a faster, safer, and more comfortable way.
Where tradition meets innovation, the future of Alpine skiing has a new name: Cervino The One.
See you on the slopes,
Riky
