  • The Best Hot Chocolate and Bombardino in Cervinia: Where to Warm Up on the Slopes

The Best Hot Chocolate and Bombardino in Cervinia: Where to Warm Up on the Slopes

Skiing in Cervinia isn’t just about carving perfect turns or chasing powder under the Matterhorn — it’s also about those cozy mountain breaks when you stop for a hot chocolate or a Bombardino to warm your hands (and your heart).

Few things define a winter day on the slopes better than a steaming cup of chocolate or the kick of a warm liqueur-based drink while snowflakes fall around you. So, let’s dive into what makes these alpine classics special — and where to find the best hot chocolate and Bombardino in Cervinia.

Hot Chocolate: Thick, Creamy, and Utterly Italian

In Italy, hot chocolate (cioccolata calda) is a serious affair. It’s not the thin, milky drink many foreigners are used to — it’s dense, creamy, and rich enough to eat with a spoon.

Traditional Italian hot chocolate is made by melting high-quality dark chocolate with a mix of milk, sugar, and a touch of cornstarch to achieve that velvety, pudding-like consistency. The result? A cup of pure decadence that feels like dessert after a perfect ski run.

If you prefer a lighter, more drinkable version — the kind often found in Swiss or British chalets — don’t worry. Many mountain huts in Cervinia also serve a more international-style hot chocolate: smooth, milky, and perfect for sipping while soaking in the alpine views.

The Best Hot Chocolate in Cervinia

When it comes to finding the ultimate hot chocolate in Cervinia, I have three clear favorites — each with its own style and atmosphere:

    1. Rocce Nere

Located above Plan Maison and easily reachable even for non-skiers, Rocce Nere serves one of the most indulgent hot chocolates in Cervinia. It’s thick, rich, and made the true Italian way — a perfect mid-morning stop when the cold bites.
The panoramic view of the Matterhorn adds an extra layer of magic to every sip.

    2. Love Restaurant & Après Ski

Love is known for its energy, music, and great food, but their hot chocolate deserves equal fame. Their version strikes a nice balance — creamy yet smooth enough to drink easily, making it perfect for a quick warm-up between ski runs or before diving into the après-ski scene.

    3. Chalet Etoile

A true Cervinia icon, Chalet Etoile is as famous for its food as it is for its warm hospitality. Their hot chocolate is elegant, rich, and beautifully presented — ideal for those who want to enjoy a slow, luxurious moment under the sun with mountain views all around.

    Bombardino: The Italian Après-Ski Classic

If hot chocolate is comfort, Bombardino is celebration.
This legendary Italian après-ski drink is made with Advocaat (egg liqueur) or Zabov, hot espresso, and a shot of brandy or rum, topped generously with whipped cream.
It’s sweet, strong, and guaranteed to make your cheeks glow even on the coldest day.

Legend says it was invented in Livigno when a skier, freezing after a run, asked for something warm and strong — and the barman replied, “Questo è una bomba!” (This is a bomb!) — hence the name Bombardino.

Today, it’s a staple of mountain bars across Italy, though everyone gives it their own twist — more coffee here, extra cream there.

    The Best Bombardino in Cervinia

Even though I’m not the biggest fan of Bombardino myself, I have to admit there are a few places in Cervinia that absolutely nail it.

    1. Love Restaurant & Après Ski

Love takes the classic Bombardino to the next level. Their version is smooth, perfectly balanced, and served with generous whipped cream. The lively atmosphere and music make it the perfect après-ski spot to enjoy it — just be careful, one can quickly turn into two!

    2. Rocce Nere

Rocce Nere doesn’t just win for hot chocolate — their Bombardino is top-notch too. Slightly stronger, more traditional, and perfect for those who prefer a real kick. Pair it with their warm, alpine atmosphere and you’ll understand why it’s a local favorite.

    3. Chalet Etoile

At Chalet Etoile, even the Bombardino has a touch of elegance. Served beautifully with a dusting of cocoa on top, it’s smoother and lighter — a refined take on a classic, perfect after a long ski morning.

Hot Chocolate or Bombardino? Why Not Both?

Whether you’re team hot chocolate or team Bombardino, Cervinia’s mountain huts have mastered the art of warming you up after a day on the slopes.
Try the rich, spoon-thick Italian chocolate at Rocce Nere in the morning, then celebrate your ski day with a Bombardino at Love in the afternoon — it’s the perfect winter combo.

And remember, the secret ingredient is always the view of the Matterhorn.

  • Hidden Gems Near Cervinia: Skiing in Torgnon and Chamois

Hidden Gems Near Cervinia: Skiing in Torgnon and Chamois

When the wind blows hard up on the Plateau Rosà or temperatures drop too low, many skiers in Cervinia start looking for a quieter place to enjoy their day on the slopes. Luckily, just a short drive away, there are two hidden gems that share the same ski pass area as Cervinia — Torgnon and Chamois.

These two small ski resorts in the Aosta Valley are perfect for those who want to escape the crowds, discover authentic mountain villages, and still enjoy great skiing under the same Cervinia multi-day ski pass.

Torgnon: The Sunny Side of the Aosta Valley

Known as the “Paès du Soleil” — the Village of the Sun — Torgnon sits on a natural plateau overlooking the Matterhorn valley. The ski area is small compared to Cervinia, but it offers a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, ideal for families or for a day when you just want to ski without rush.

The slopes range from beginner-friendly runs to a few more technical red ones, and the snowpark is surprisingly well-equipped for such a cozy resort. The views over the Valtournenche valley are spectacular, especially on a bluebird day after a snowfall.

Torgnon is also known for its excellent cross-country skiing trails, often considered among the best in the Aosta Valley, and for the warm hospitality in its mountain huts — the Chantorné area is particularly popular for lunch breaks in the sun.

If you’re staying in Cervinia, it’s about a 30-minute drive to reach Torgnon, and your Cervinia multi-day skipass covers the lifts, so no need to buy an extra ticket.https://www.torgnon.org/en/

    Chamois: The Car-Free Alpine Escape

While Torgnon is lively and sunny, Chamois is something truly special — the only car-free village in Italy accessible by cable car from Buisson, just below La Magdeleine.
This tiny resort is the definition of peace and authenticity: no traffic, no noise, just pure mountain air and the sound of skis carving on the snow.

The ski area has around 10 km of slopes, small but scenic, perfect for an easygoing day of skiing or snowboarding. What makes Chamois unforgettable is the atmosphere — time seems to slow down here, and you can really feel what mountain life used to be like.

You’ll find cozy chalets and local restaurants serving traditional Valdostan dishes such as polenta conciacarbonada, and fontina fondue. The Maison Cly Hotel & Spa is a great option if you decide to stay overnight, with a charming spa area and panoramic views over the surrounding peaks.

Because of its altitude and exposure, Chamois is also a smart choice on very cold or windy days in Cervinia — the conditions are often milder and more comfortable, without giving up good snow quality.https://www.lovevda.it/en/database/3/tourist-resorts/aosta-valley/chamois/375

    Why Visit These Resorts

Both Torgnon and Chamois offer a refreshing alternative to the high-altitude skiing of Cervinia and Zermatt. They are ideal for families, beginners, or anyone who enjoys a slower pace and authentic local experiences.

    • Valid Skipass: Your Cervinia multi-day skipass is also valid in Torgnon and Chamois.
    • Easy Access: Around 30–40 minutes by car from Cervinia.
    • Less Crowded: Perfect for days when weather limits the higher lifts.
    • Authentic Feel: True Aosta Valley hospitality and traditional cuisine.

    Local Tips from Riky

If you’re planning a ski holiday in Cervinia, keep these two resorts in mind for days when you want something different.
Start early, enjoy a long sunny lunch in Torgnon, or relax in the quiet charm of Chamois — and remember, both are part of the same ski pass system!

Whenever conditions in Cervinia aren’t ideal (strong wind, closed glacier, or extreme cold), locals often head to these areas to keep skiing without losing a day.

Plan Your Trip with Ski With Riky

Whether you’re skiing the mighty Cervinia-Zermatt area or discovering smaller treasures like Torgnon and Chamois, I can help you plan the perfect day on the snow.

If you have any questions about where to ski, eat, or stay in the Aosta Valley, feel free to email me at info@skiwithriky.com — I’ve skied and taught in all these resorts and would be happy to help you make your trip unforgettable.

    See you on the slopes,

  • Early Season Skiing in Cervinia & Zermatt: Fresh Snow, Empty Slopes, Pure Vibes

Early Season Skiing in Cervinia & Zermatt: Fresh Snow, Empty Slopes, Pure Vibes

It’s early December — that magical time when winter has finally taken over the Alps. The mountains are covered in a fresh layer of snow, the lifts are almost fully open, and the air is filled with excitement.
If you’re looking for the perfect early season skiing in Cervinia and Zermatt, this is it.

The crowds of Christmas haven’t arrived yet, the slopes are perfectly groomed, and you can still enjoy that calm, exclusive feeling of having the mountain almost to yourself.https://www.cervinia.it/inverno/home

Why December Is the Perfect Time to Ski

Early December is often overlooked, but for true snow lovers, it’s one of the best times of the year. The snow quality is already excellent — especially in high-altitude resorts like Cervinia and Zermatt, where the glacier guarantees perfect conditions from the very start.

With temperatures dropping consistently below zero, the snow stays dry and fast, giving you that crisp, satisfying sound under your skis. The lower light and fresh powder mornings make for incredible photos, too.

And let’s not forget: fewer people, shorter lift lines, and more relaxed lunches on the slopes. You can ski from the Italian side in Cervinia to the Swiss side in Zermatt without the usual wait — it’s the ideal time to enjoy the full potential of this legendary ski area.

Perfect Snow, Full Area, Great Vibes

By early December, Cervinia-Zermatt is almost entirely open. You can ski from the Klein Matterhorn all the way down to Cervinia village — a vertical drop of more than 2,000 meters.

The connection between the two countries is running smoothly, and whether you prefer the long, panoramic red runs from Plateau Rosà or the more challenging terrain around Schwarzsee, everything is in top shape.

On the Italian side, the snowmaking system has done a great job as always, and the quality of grooming is exceptional. The first runs in the morning are pure perfection — wide, grippy, and almost empty.

If you want to warm up your legs for the season ahead, this is the moment.

Après-Ski Is Back (and Better Than Ever)

One of the best parts of skiing in early December? The après-ski is already alive and kicking.

In Cervinia, spots like SuperG and Love are buzzing with good energy — people are smiling, reconnecting with friends, and finally back dancing in ski boots. The vibe is relaxed, not overcrowded, and you can still grab a table with a view of the Matterhorn as the sun goes down.

On the Zermatt side, Cervo Mountain Resort and Hennu Stall are already setting the tone for the season, mixing live music and that unmistakable Alpine chic atmosphere.

After months of waiting, the mountains feel alive again — and that first après-ski drink of the winter? It just hits different.

Tips for Early Season Skiing in Cervinia & Zermatt

Start Early: Mornings offer the best snow — smooth, fast, and untouched.

Layer Up: Temperatures can drop quickly this time of year, especially on the glacier.

Mix Both Sides: Spend a day in Cervinia and one in Zermatt — both offer unique runs and scenery.

Book in Advance: Accommodation is still easier to find than during holidays, but the best hotels fill up quickly.

The Magic of the Early Season

There’s something special about skiing in early December — it feels like a reward after the long wait since spring. The lifts are running, your legs are burning again, and every turn reminds you why you love this sport.

Whether you’re carving down from Testa Grigia, enjoying a long lunch at Chalet Etoile, or catching the last rays of sun at Chez Vrony, this period captures the true spirit of skiing — fresh snow, pure joy, and endless freedom.

So if you’re thinking of an early winter getaway, don’t wait for the holidays. Pack your gear, book your trip, and experience the mountains before everyone else arrives.

A ski lesson with a professional instructor isn’t just a gift; it’s a memory in the making. Whether for a first-timer eager to learn or a confident skier looking to refine their turns, a day on the slopes with me is the kind of present that goes far beyond Christmas morning.

Why a Ski Lesson Makes the Perfect Christmas Gift

Gift cards are valid throughout the 2025–26 winter season and can be used in Cervinia, Courmayeur, or La Thuile.

A Gift That Lasts Beyond Christmas

While the decorations and snowflakes may fade, the feeling of carving that perfect turn or standing on top of a sunlit ridge stays forever.

Your gift might spark a lifelong passion for skiing — or simply give someone a reason to smile, disconnect, and breathe in the beauty of the Alps.

Every lesson is designed to be safe, professional, and fun, whether it’s discovering the basics or mastering advanced carving techniques. My goal is always the same: to make every person feel confident, connected, and inspired by the mountains.

  • From Albissola to Cervinia: The Pink Helmet that Became a Symbol on the Slopes

From Albissola to Cervinia: The Pink Helmet that Became a Symbol on the Slopes

Sometimes a small detail — like the color of a ski helmet — can change everything. From Albissola to Cervinia.
What started as a simple way to stand out on the slopes has turned into a story that reached the pages of Il Secolo XIX and even the world of professional skiing.

I’m Riky Varaldo — born in Albissola, Italy, and now a full-time ski instructor in Cervinia, where my pink helmet has become a symbol recognized on and off the mountain.

The Beginning: A Pink Helmet and a Lot of Passion

When I first started wearing a pink helmet, I didn’t imagine it would spark so much attention. I was simply looking for something that represented me — colorful, unconventional, and fun.

Then came the videos: short clips filmed during my lessons with international clients in Cervinia. Some people loved them; others didn’t quite get them. But the mix of reactions only made the story grow. What began as a bit of controversy quickly turned into a sign of authenticity and individuality.

Over time, I refined my content — mixing ski lessons, lifestyle, helicopter rides above the Matterhorn, and the unique experiences of skiing with clients from all over the world: American entrepreneurs, film actors, even a few billionaires.

And then, something completely unexpected happened.

A Call from Marco Odermatt’s Team

One day, I received a call that truly left me speechless. It was from the staff of Olympic champion Marco Odermatt — one of the world’s most decorated skiers, with multiple World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal in giant slalom.

They told me they were working on a commercial for a well-known eyewear brand and wanted me to take part. My role? Playing Odermatt’s ski instructor from his childhood.

At first, I thought it was a joke. But it wasn’t. Soon after, I found myself filming in Zermatt, on the Swiss side of the mountain I know so well.

It was an unforgettable experience — working with one of the greatest athletes in the sport, surrounded by a professional crew, and bringing a bit of my signature energy to the project.

From the Slopes to the Screen

This wasn’t my first experience in front of the camera.
Thanks to my online presence — and my pink helmet, of course — I had already been contacted by Rai Uno for a show called “La Porta Magica”, aired in 2024.

In each episode, the main guest had to confront their biggest fear.
For me, that fear was horses. It took some convincing (and a lot of courage), but in the end, I faced it — and the episode concluded with me riding on horseback. Definitely a very different kind of challenge compared to skiing!

Turning a Passion into a Career

My path started far from television studios and luxury helicopters.
I graduated from Liceo Linguistico Chiabrera Martini in Savona and competed as a skier from a young age. Over time, I realized that my true calling was teaching — sharing my love for skiing with others.

But I also understood that, in today’s world, passion isn’t enough. You need to be an entrepreneur of yourself.
That’s exactly what I did. By blending professionalism with creativity and storytelling, I managed to transform my lessons into unique experiences that resonate with people across the world.

    Looking Ahead: Beyond the Slopes

I’m proud of how far this journey has come — from the beaches of Albissola to the glaciers of Cervinia, from teaching beginners to skiing alongside champions.

But I’m not stopping here. My goal is to expand from the world of skiing to that of entertainment and film, continuing to develop this character that people recognize — the ski instructor with the pink helmet.

My audience today is mostly international, and I focus on clients who want something beyond a simple ski lesson:
private heli-ski experiences, fine dining on the slopes, and unforgettable adventures in the mountains.

As I said in the interview, I’ve even skied in the desert with some clients. And who knows — maybe next time, it’ll be on a movie set.

    4. Check ski lift access or shuttle services, especially if weather or wind can affect lift operations.
    5. Consider the period: late February to April for longer daylight hours, better weather, while December-January offers cold, snowy magic but shorter days.

Valle d’Aosta Joins Ikon Pass: A Game-Changer for Skiers

Good news is on the horizon for winter sports lovers: Valle d’Aosta joins Ikon Pass starting in the 2025-26 season, positioning the region among the most exclusive ski destinations in the world.

From next winter, five of the region’s most iconic ski areas—including Courmayeur Mont Blanc, Cervino Ski Paradise, La Thuile Espace San Bernardo, Monterosa Ski, and Pila—will welcome Ikon Pass holders. Full Impressions: holders of the full Ikon Pass get seven total days, while Ikon Base Pass holders receive five days—all with no blackout dates. stormskiing.com

    Why This Matters

Valle d’Aosta joins Ikon Pass marks a pivotal moment in its international ski tourism strategy. Previously, only European resorts like Dolomiti Superski and Zermatt were included. Now, with the “VdA” firmly on the map, skiers from North America and beyond can access the Italian Alps with unparalleled ease and prestige.

Among the five linked destinations, Cervino borders directly with Zermatt Matterhorn, and Courmayeur offers quick access to Chamonix via Mont Blanc tunnel—perfect for border-hopping adventures.

A Historic Step: Valle d’Aosta Joins Ikon Pass

With the official entry into Ikon Pass, Valle d’Aosta is making history. Starting from the 2025/26 season, the six most representative ski lift companies of the region – Cervino Ski Paradise, Courmayeur Mont Blanc Funivie, La Thuile Espace San Bernardo, Monterosa Ski, Pila, and Skyway Monte Bianco – will be accessible to holders of the world-famous international ski pass.

Ikon Pass, developed by Alterra Mountain Company in Denver (Colorado), currently includes 63 destinations across 11 countries and 5 continents. In Europe, until now, the network only featured top-tier ski areas such as Grandvalira, Kitzbühel, Ischgl, Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley, Zermatt, St. Moritz, and Dolomiti Superski.

The entry of Valle d’Aosta therefore represents a true recognition of the work carried out in recent years by the local lift companies, who have invested heavily in modernization, sustainability, and services. This move not only positions the region among the world’s elite skiing destinations but also highlights Italy’s growing influence in the global ski tourism market.

What It Signals for the Region

Joining Ikon Pass is not just a marketing move—it’s economic dynamite. Previous European entries like Zermatt and Dolomiti Superski saw significant increases in tourism from U.S. skiers. That same potential now shines on Valle d’Aosta, showcasing its alpine charm, culinary heritage, and scenic magnificence to new global audiences.

    Final Thoughts

In short, Valle d’Aosta joins Ikon Pass is more than a partnership—it’s a bridge. It connects iconic Italian slopes with a premier global ski community. If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring Italian Alpine traditions while skirting across Swiss snow, this is your season.

  • Cervino The One Ski Lift: A Leap Into the Future of Cervinia

Cervino The One Ski Lift: A Leap Into the Future of Cervinia

Cervinia is preparing for a revolution in Alpine skiing with the launch of Cervino The One ski lift. Announced on August 22, this ambitious €200 million project will reshape the way skiers and visitors experience the Alps. The state-of-the-art 3S gondola will link Breuil-Cervinia to Plateau Rosa in only 17 minutes, cutting travel time by more than half compared to today’s 50 minutes.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and finish in 2030. Once completed, this futuristic lift will combine the efficiency of a cable car with the comfort of a gondola, featuring long spans, steep gradients, and cabins capable of carrying 30 passengers. The line will stretch for nearly six kilometers, with a total elevation gain of 1,427 meters.

    Capacity, Speed, and Comfort

Cervino The One ski lift has been designed with record-breaking performance in mind. With an hourly capacity of 3,000 passengers, wind stability up to 100 km/h, and speeds reaching 8 meters per second (around 29 km/h), it promises smooth and reliable transport even in challenging conditions.

The 56 Symphony model cabins will feature 360-degree panoramic windows, heated leather-style seating for 24 people, internal ski racks, anti-slip flooring, multimedia screens, and advanced communication systems. Everything has been planned to maximize comfort and safety for skiers traveling to the Plateau Rosa at 3,458 meters.

    A Sustainable and Secure Future

Sustainability is a cornerstone of the Cervino The One ski lift project. Thanks to DirectDrive motors, which run at just 33 rotations per minute, energy consumption will be reduced, while noise emissions will stay below 85 decibels — remarkable for an installation of this size.

On the safety side, the lift will include four independent drive systems (main, reserve, recovery, and emergency) as well as three braking systems, ensuring minimal risk of stoppages even during power outages.

    Stations and Infrastructure

The new lift will not only transform the ride but also the stations themselves. The base station at 2,031 meters will become a modern hub with ticket offices, rental services, shops, bars, and restaurants. The mid-station at Plan Maison (2,550 meters) will integrate with existing lifts and include restaurants, commercial areas, and even an underground automated warehouse for cabins and equipment.

At the top, the Plateau Rosa station (3,458 meters) will be carved into the rock, directly connecting with Switzerland’s Klein Matterhorn facilities, completed in 2023.

Architecturally, the project will blend stone, reinforced concrete, glass, and wood for a sleek yet natural finish, with zinc-titanium roofing and photovoltaic panels to generate clean energy.

The Investment Behind Cervino The One

The Cervino The One ski lift is backed by an investment of approximately €200 million. The Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta has already allocated €70 million, while Cervino Spa will cover the rest through self-financing, bank loans, and recent strong financial performance.

Construction will be led by Leitner, a leader in ropeway technology, alongside a consortium of local companies handling civil works.

Why It Matters for Skiers and Visitors

By 2030, Cervinia will no longer just be a top ski destination — it will become a symbol of modern Alpine tourism. The Cervino The One ski lift will drastically improve accessibility, enhance comfort, and provide a sustainable model for future mountain transport.

For skiers, this means less time commuting and more time on the slopes. For visitors, it represents an easier and more enjoyable way to discover the beauty of the Alps.

    Final Thoughts

The unveiling of Cervino The One ski lift is more than just the announcement of new infrastructure. It’s a bold vision of the future, blending innovation, sustainability, and Alpine tradition. By 2030, Cervinia will stand at the forefront of world-class mountain resorts, ready to welcome thousands of visitors in a faster, safer, and more comfortable way.

Where tradition meets innovation, the future of Alpine skiing has a new name: Cervino The One.

    See you on the slopes,
