Cervinia Ski Slopes Guide: The Best Runs for Every Ability

One of the questions I hear almost every day is:

“Is Cervinia suitable for my level?”

My answer is always the same.

    Absolutely.

Whether you’re putting on skis for the very first time, looking to improve your technique, or searching for challenging off-piste terrain, Cervinia offers one of the most complete ski experiences in the Alps.

As a ski instructor who spends every winter here, I’ve skied every corner of this mountain in every type of snow condition imaginable. That’s why I often recommend Cervinia to families, beginners, experienced skiers and expert freeriders alike.

Let’s discover what makes this resort so special.

Why Cervinia Is One of the Best Ski Resorts in Europe

Located at over 2,000 metres above sea level, Cervinia is famous for its long winter season and reliable snow conditions.

Together with neighbouring Zermatt in Switzerland, the resort offers access to more than 360 km of interconnected slopes, making it one of the largest ski areas in Europe.

What makes Cervinia truly unique isn’t only its size.

It’s the incredible variety of terrain.

    Wide beginner slopes.

    Long cruising runs.

    Technical black pistes.

    High-altitude skiing.

And, when nature provides the right conditions, some fantastic off-piste opportunities.

Very few resorts manage to combine all of these in one place. Cervinia Ski Pass Prices 2026/2027

Blue Slopes: One of the Best Places in Europe to Learn

If you’re learning to ski, Cervinia is honestly one of the best destinations I can recommend.

Many resorts have beginner areas that are small, crowded or quickly become too difficult.

    Cervinia is different.

Its blue slopes are wide, gentle and exceptionally well maintained.

There is plenty of space to practise turns without feeling pressured by faster skiers, which helps beginners gain confidence much more quickly.

One of the biggest advantages is that many easy slopes are located high on the mountain.

This means beginners can enjoy breathtaking views of the Matterhorn while skiing on excellent snow.

Even after just a few days, many first-time skiers are surprised by how much terrain they are able to explore.

    My Favourite Areas for Beginners

When I’m teaching beginners, I often choose different areas depending on the snow conditions and the confidence of my guests.

The gentle slopes around Plan Maison are perfect for developing basic technique, while the wide runs higher on the mountain allow beginners to experience real Alpine skiing without feeling intimidated.

Because the pistes are generally wider than in many other resorts, students can focus on improving rather than simply trying to avoid other skiers. My favourite one is slope n.5, you can ski till the city center!

Red Slopes: Where Cervinia Really Shines

If you’re already comfortable skiing parallel turns, Cervinia becomes even more enjoyable.

The resort is full of long red runs that are ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers wanting to improve rhythm, carving and confidence.

Rather than short, steep sections, many of Cervinia’s red pistes allow you to ski continuously for several kilometres.

This makes them perfect for developing technique while simply enjoying the incredible scenery.

Some of my favourite red runs combine flowing terrain, spectacular views and relatively quiet pistes, particularly during weekdays.

They’re the kind of slopes where you can really find your rhythm and enjoy every turn. The best one in my opinion is slope n. 6bis!

Black Slopes: Technical Without Being Extreme

Although Cervinia isn’t famous for having dozens of black pistes, the ones it does have offer an excellent technical challenge.

These runs demand solid technique, especially when conditions become icy or after fresh snowfall.

They reward skiers who enjoy precision, good edge control and steeper terrain.

For advanced skiers, they provide the perfect opportunity to test their abilities while still enjoying the resort’s spectacular mountain scenery.

    One Resort for Every Level

One of the reasons I enjoy teaching in Cervinia is that every member of a group can find suitable terrain.

It’s common for families with completely different skiing abilities to spend the day together.

    Parents can enjoy challenging runs.

Teenagers can explore the whole ski area.

    Beginners can continue building confidence.

Everyone can meet again for lunch with incredible Matterhorn views.

Few resorts make this as easy as Cervinia.

Off-Piste Skiing: A Paradise When Conditions Are Right

For experienced skiers, Cervinia offers much more than groomed pistes.

After fresh snowfall and when avalanche conditions are safe, the area provides some outstanding off-piste terrain.

    Wide open faces.

    Natural bowls.

    Long descents.

High-altitude snow that often stays in excellent condition.

Combined with the neighbouring terrain around Zermatt, the possibilities become enormous.

However, off-piste skiing should never be underestimated.

Weather, snow stability and avalanche risk can change very quickly in the mountains.

If you’re thinking about exploring beyond the marked pistes, I strongly recommend skiing with a qualified mountain guide or an experienced local professional who knows the terrain and current conditions.

Done safely, it’s one of the most unforgettable experiences the Alps can offer.

    More Than Just Great Skiing

Another reason I recommend Cervinia is everything that happens off the slopes.

    Excellent mountain restaurants.

    Luxury hotels.

    Traditional alpine cuisine.

    Relaxed Italian atmosphere.

    Fantastic après-ski.

Easy access from Milan and Turin airports.

    It’s the complete package.

My Personal Favourite Thing About Cervinia

People often ask me what my favourite run is.

    The truth is… it depends.

Some mornings, after fresh snow, nothing beats making the first tracks on perfectly groomed corduroy beneath the Matterhorn.

Other days, I love taking guests on long cruising runs that seem to go on forever.

And when Mother Nature delivers plenty of fresh powder, enjoying a safe off-piste descent is one of the greatest pleasures any skier can experience.

That’s what I love most about Cervinia.

    Every day feels different.

    Every snowfall creates new opportunities.

Every guest discovers their own favourite part of the mountain.

Even after spending years teaching here, I still look forward to every single ski day.

Why I Keep Coming Back Every Winter

I’ve skied in many incredible resorts across the Alps, but Cervinia remains one of the places I enjoy the most.

    Not because it’s the steepest.

Not because it’s the most famous.

But because it offers something that very few resorts can match:

A mountain where complete beginners, confident intermediates, expert skiers and freeriders can all have an unforgettable day on snow.

That’s what makes Cervinia so special.

  • New Ski Lifts in Courmayeur: Two Modern Gondolas Are Transforming the Resort

New Ski Lifts in Courmayeur: Two Modern Gondolas Are Transforming the Resort

One of Italy’s most elegant ski resorts is preparing for a major upgrade.

For the 2026/27 winter season, Courmayeur will introduce two brand-new 10-person gondolas, replacing older lifts and significantly improving the experience for thousands of skiers every day.

These new installations represent one of the biggest infrastructure investments the resort has made in recent years and confirm Courmayeur’s commitment to offering faster, more comfortable and more sustainable access to its beautiful ski terrain beneath Mont Blanc.

    A New Era for Courmayeur

Courmayeur has always been famous for its unique atmosphere.

Unlike many purpose-built ski resorts, it combines world-class skiing with a charming Italian village full of boutique shops, excellent restaurants and spectacular views of Mont Blanc.

Now the resort is investing heavily in its future by modernising two of its most important lift connections.

The goal is simple: reduce waiting times, increase transport capacity and offer a smoother journey from the village to the slopes.

    Which Lifts Are Being Replaced?

The project includes the replacement of two well-known lifts :

    Chécrouit Gondola

The existing six-person gondola serving the Chécrouit area will be replaced by a modern 10-person LEITNER gondola.

The new lift will increase hourly capacity while providing a faster and far more comfortable ride.

For visitors arriving in the morning, this means shorter queues and quicker access to one of Courmayeur’s main skiing areas.

    Maison Vieille Gondola

The historic two-person chairlift leading towards Maison Vieille will also disappear.

In its place will arrive another 10-person gondola, offering enclosed cabins, protection from wind and snow, improved accessibility for families and beginners, and a significant reduction in travel time.

This is one of the upgrades many regular visitors have been hoping for over the last few years.

    Why These New Lifts Matter

Modern ski lifts are about much more than simply getting uphill.

They improve the entire mountain experience.

    The new gondolas will offer:

    • Higher transport capacity
    • Shorter queues during busy periods
    • Greater comfort in all weather conditions
    • Easier access for children and beginner skiers
    • Better accessibility for pedestrians
    • Lower energy consumption thanks to modern technology

For many guests, the improvements will be noticeable from the very first day of their holiday.

    A Better Experience for Families

Families are among the biggest winners from these upgrades.

Boarding enclosed gondolas is considerably easier than using older chairlifts, especially with young children or beginners.

Parents will also appreciate the extra comfort during snowy or windy days, while first-time skiers can reach the mountain feeling much more relaxed.

Faster Access Means More Time on the Slopes

Every skier knows the feeling of spending precious holiday time waiting in lift queues.

By increasing capacity and reducing travel times, Courmayeur hopes to give visitors what they value most:

    More skiing.

    Less waiting.

For guests spending only a weekend in the resort, every extra run makes a difference.

    Investing in the Future

These new gondolas are part of a broader strategy to modernise Courmayeur while preserving the elegance and character that have made the resort famous around the world.

Rather than expanding aggressively, the focus is on improving quality, efficiency and guest experience.

It’s an approach that reflects the growing expectations of today’s skiers, who increasingly value comfort, sustainability and premium facilities alongside great snow conditions.

    Winter 2026/27 Is Looking Exciting

With the new lifts expected to open for the 2026/27 season, visitors will experience a noticeably smoother journey across some of Courmayeur’s most popular sectors.

Combined with the resort’s excellent restaurants, breathtaking scenery and the spectacular backdrop of Mont Blanc, these improvements make Courmayeur an even more attractive destination for both returning visitors and those discovering the resort for the first time. https://www.courmayeurmontblanc.it/en/
