The Perfect Christmas Gift: A Ski Lesson with Riky

When Christmas is around the corner, finding the right present can be tricky. We all know that feeling: scrolling through endless gift ideas online, trying to pick something meaningful, personal, and unique. This year, why not skip the usual sweater or bottle of wine — and give an experience instead?

A ski lesson with a professional instructor isn’t just a gift; it’s a memory in the making. Whether for a first-timer eager to learn or a confident skier looking to refine their turns, a day on the slopes with me is the kind of present that goes far beyond Christmas morning.

A Gift of Adventure and Connection

The magic of skiing lies in the blend of nature, challenge, and freedom. Picture this: sparkling snow, crisp Alpine air, and that sense of thrill when your skis start gliding perfectly along the slope.

Ski With Riky Gift Card gives your loved ones exactly that — the chance to experience the mountains of Cervinia, Courmayeur, or La Thuile in the most authentic way possible. Lessons are fully personalized, whether it’s a half-day introduction, a full day of technique and progression, or an off-piste adventure for more advanced riders.

It’s not just about improving skills — it’s about sharing something special. Skiing connects people, families, and friends. It brings laughter, adrenaline, and that unmistakable smile that only the mountains can give.

Why a Ski Lesson Makes the Perfect Christmas Gift

    1. It’s Personal and Unique
Unlike material gifts, a ski lesson creates a moment — something to live, not just to unwrap. You’re giving time, experience, and joy.

    2. It’s for Everyone
From beginners to experts, kids to adults — I tailor every session based on ability, goals, and personality.

    3. It’s Set in an Unforgettable Place
Cervinia, Courmayeur, and La Thuile aren’t just ski resorts — they’re full Alpine experiences. Stunning views, Italian hospitality, and some of the best slopes in Europe.

    4. It’s Easy to Organize
You don’t have to worry about picking sizes or delivery dates. Just choose your preferred location, duration, and add a personalized message — and your digital gift card will be ready to surprise someone special.

    How It Works

Ordering a Ski With Riky Gift Card is simple:

    1. Visit www.skiwithriky.com
    2. Choose your preferred package (half-day, full-day, or customized lesson)
    3. Send me an email at info@skiwithriky.com to personalize your gift — I’ll prepare a beautiful digital card you can print or send directly to your loved one.

Gift cards are valid throughout the 2025–26 winter season and can be used in Cervinia, Courmayeur, or La Thuile.

A Gift That Lasts Beyond Christmas

While the decorations and snowflakes may fade, the feeling of carving that perfect turn or standing on top of a sunlit ridge stays forever.

Your gift might spark a lifelong passion for skiing — or simply give someone a reason to smile, disconnect, and breathe in the beauty of the Alps.

Every lesson is designed to be safe, professional, and fun, whether it’s discovering the basics or mastering advanced carving techniques. My goal is always the same: to make every person feel confident, connected, and inspired by the mountains.

    This Christmas, Give Something Real

So this year, skip the ordinary gifts. Give a present that says you deserve time for yourself, joy, and adventure.

Ski With Riky Gift Card isn’t just a skiing lesson — it’s a story waiting to be written on snow.

If you’d like to learn more, ask about pricing, or get a personalized digital card, feel free to email me at info@skiwithriky.com or visit www.skiwithriky.com.

  • Best Mountain Restaurants in Cervinia: Where to Eat on the Slopes

Best Mountain Restaurants in Cervinia: Where to Eat on the Slopes

Skiing in Cervinia isn’t just about perfect runs and breathtaking Matterhorn views — it’s also about eating well. Between descents and après-ski moments, the resort offers some truly exceptional mountain restaurants where you can enjoy top-quality food, warm hospitality, and unbeatable scenery. Here’s my personal guide to the best mountain restaurants in Cervinia, ranked from the most refined dining experiences to the most authentic Alpine spots you shouldn’t miss.

Meraviglioso (Super G) — The Top of Service and Style

Let’s start from the top, literally and figuratively.

Meraviglioso, also known as Super G Cervinia, sets the standard for mountain dining. The service here is simply outstanding — professional, attentive, and elegant, yet always relaxed enough to make you feel at home. The menu blends Italian classics with international influences, and the wine list is among the best in the valley.

Of course, quality comes at a price, but the overall experience is worth every euro: the view of the Matterhorn, the impeccable plating, and the exclusive atmosphere make Meraviglioso the ultimate choice for those who want a luxury lunch on the slopes.https://lovesuperg.com/en/

Love — Great Food and Legendary Après-Ski

At Love, the name says it all. This spot has become one of the liveliest and most popular mountain restaurants in Cervinia thanks to its excellent food and its vibrant après-ski scene. The cuisine focuses on local ingredients, with dishes that feel both refined and comforting — think homemade pasta, grilled meats, and indulgent desserts.

After lunch, the terrace transforms into a party scene with music, drinks, and that unmistakable Cervinia energy. If you’re looking for a place that combines gourmet dining with good vibes and great people, Love is your place. https://lovecervinia.com/en/elementor-2811/

Rocce Nere — Accessible, Scenic, and Delicious

If you’re traveling with friends or family members who don’t ski, Rocce Nere is ideal. Located at Plan Maison, it’s easily reachable via cable car directly from the village, which makes it one of the most accessible restaurants in Cervinia’s ski area.

The menu offers a mix of traditional Alpine dishes and creative touches — polenta, cheese fondue, and grilled specialties are the stars here. Pair that with a sunny terrace and wide mountain views, and you’ve got the perfect spot for a long, lazy lunch. https://roccenerecervinia.com

Chalet Etoile — The Classic That Never Disappoints

You can’t talk about the best restaurants in Cervinia without mentioning Chalet Etoile. It’s a true institution — a family-run restaurant famous for decades for its warmth, service, and outstanding food. The cuisine is Nordic-inspired with Italian flair, thanks to its Swedish origins, and everything from the seafood pasta to the reindeer fillet is prepared to perfection.

It’s the kind of place where generations of skiers return year after year — proof that excellence and authenticity never go out of style. https://www.chaletetoile.it

Ristorante Bontadini — Great Food, Needs a Touch of Renewal

At Bontadini, the food is genuinely excellent — think local cheeses, rich soups, and hearty pasta dishes. It’s also one of the few places high up on the slopes where you can enjoy a full restaurant experience rather than just a quick bite.

If there’s one thing that could make it even better, it would be a small update to the structure itself, which feels slightly dated compared to newer venues. Still, the flavors and friendly atmosphere more than make up for it. https://www.cervinia.it/en/ospitalita-servizi/bontadini

La Bricole — For Meat Lovers

Finally, if you’re passionate about grilled meat, La Bricole is your place. Famous among locals and visitors alike, it’s known for perfectly cooked steaks and generous portions served in a cozy, rustic atmosphere. It’s a bit off the main slopes, but well worth the detour — especially after a day of skiing when you’re craving something hearty and authentic. https://www.ristorantebricolebricolette.com

    Final Thoughts

Whether you’re after Michelin-starred finesse or traditional Alpine comfort, Cervinia’s dining scene has something for every taste. From Meraviglioso’s fine-dining excellence to La Bricole’s rustic grill, these are truly the best mountain restaurants in Cervinia, each offering its own unique take on food, atmosphere, and mountain lifestyle.

If you’re planning your ski trip and want help choosing where to eat, ski, or stay, don’t hesitate to reach out — you can email me anytime at info@skiwithriky.com. I’ve personally eaten at all these spots, and I’d be happy to help you plan your perfect food-and-ski adventure in Cervinia.

    See you on the slopes,
    Riky

  • From Albissola to Cervinia: The Pink Helmet that Became a Symbol on the Slopes

From Albissola to Cervinia: The Pink Helmet that Became a Symbol on the Slopes

Sometimes a small detail — like the color of a ski helmet — can change everything. From Albissola to Cervinia.
What started as a simple way to stand out on the slopes has turned into a story that reached the pages of Il Secolo XIX and even the world of professional skiing.

I’m Riky Varaldo — born in Albissola, Italy, and now a full-time ski instructor in Cervinia, where my pink helmet has become a symbol recognized on and off the mountain.

The Beginning: A Pink Helmet and a Lot of Passion

When I first started wearing a pink helmet, I didn’t imagine it would spark so much attention. I was simply looking for something that represented me — colorful, unconventional, and fun.

Then came the videos: short clips filmed during my lessons with international clients in Cervinia. Some people loved them; others didn’t quite get them. But the mix of reactions only made the story grow. What began as a bit of controversy quickly turned into a sign of authenticity and individuality.

Over time, I refined my content — mixing ski lessons, lifestyle, helicopter rides above the Matterhorn, and the unique experiences of skiing with clients from all over the world: American entrepreneurs, film actors, even a few billionaires.

And then, something completely unexpected happened.

A Call from Marco Odermatt’s Team

One day, I received a call that truly left me speechless. It was from the staff of Olympic champion Marco Odermatt — one of the world’s most decorated skiers, with multiple World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal in giant slalom.

They told me they were working on a commercial for a well-known eyewear brand and wanted me to take part. My role? Playing Odermatt’s ski instructor from his childhood.

At first, I thought it was a joke. But it wasn’t. Soon after, I found myself filming in Zermatt, on the Swiss side of the mountain I know so well.

It was an unforgettable experience — working with one of the greatest athletes in the sport, surrounded by a professional crew, and bringing a bit of my signature energy to the project.

    🎥 Watch the video here:

From the Slopes to the Screen

This wasn’t my first experience in front of the camera.
Thanks to my online presence — and my pink helmet, of course — I had already been contacted by Rai Uno for a show called “La Porta Magica”, aired in 2024.

In each episode, the main guest had to confront their biggest fear.
For me, that fear was horses. It took some convincing (and a lot of courage), but in the end, I faced it — and the episode concluded with me riding on horseback. Definitely a very different kind of challenge compared to skiing!

Turning a Passion into a Career

My path started far from television studios and luxury helicopters.
I graduated from Liceo Linguistico Chiabrera Martini in Savona and competed as a skier from a young age. Over time, I realized that my true calling was teaching — sharing my love for skiing with others.

But I also understood that, in today’s world, passion isn’t enough. You need to be an entrepreneur of yourself.
That’s exactly what I did. By blending professionalism with creativity and storytelling, I managed to transform my lessons into unique experiences that resonate with people across the world.

    Looking Ahead: Beyond the Slopes

I’m proud of how far this journey has come — from the beaches of Albissola to the glaciers of Cervinia, from teaching beginners to skiing alongside champions.

But I’m not stopping here. My goal is to expand from the world of skiing to that of entertainment and film, continuing to develop this character that people recognize — the ski instructor with the pink helmet.

My audience today is mostly international, and I focus on clients who want something beyond a simple ski lesson:
private heli-ski experiences, fine dining on the slopes, and unforgettable adventures in the mountains.

As I said in the interview, I’ve even skied in the desert with some clients. And who knows — maybe next time, it’ll be on a movie set.

Get Ready for Winter: Cervinia Ski Season Opening 2025 on October 26

As the summer heat slowly fades, skiers all around the world start counting the days — and there’s no better place to kick off the winter season than Cervinia.

For those who can’t wait to feel their skis glide on fresh snow again, this is the signal — it’s time to start planning your winter getaway!

A Season That Never Seems to End

Few places in the world can match Cervinia’s ski calendar. Opening in late October and running until early May, the resort offers one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps, thanks to the high altitude and access to the Plateau Rosa glacier at over 3,500 meters.
This unique advantage allows passionate skiers and snowboarders to enjoy perfect snow conditions even before most resorts open their lifts.

The official announcement from Cervino Ski Paradise confirms that lifts will start turning on October 26 for the 2025/26 winter season — an early start that promises a fantastic beginning to another record-breaking year for Italy’s most iconic high-altitude resort.

    Which Slopes Will Be Open?

At the moment, it’s still too early to confirm exactly which lifts and slopes will be open at the start of the season.
The Cervino Ski Paradise team is carefully monitoring snow conditions and upcoming precipitation, which will determine how many runs can be prepared for the opening weekend.

In recent years, early openings have featured skiing mainly on the Plateau Rosa glacier and runs connecting down toward Plan Maison, depending on weather and temperature conditions.

Stay tuned — I’ll keep you updated here on the blog and on my social channels as soon as official details are released.

Why October Is the Perfect Time to Ski Cervinia

Skiing in Cervinia at the end of October feels special. The atmosphere is quiet and exclusive, the air is crisp, and the excitement of the first turns of the season is unbeatable.
It’s also the perfect opportunity to test your gear, refresh your technique, or simply enjoy the peace of the mountains before the winter rush begins.

For many professionals and ski enthusiasts — myself included — this early opening is like the real start of winter. Whether you’re training, teaching, or simply skiing for fun, Cervinia’s early-season conditions are second to none.

Plan Ahead and Get in Touch

If you’re thinking about skiing early this year, now’s the time to book your accommodation and plan your trip. Cervinia can get busy during the opening weekend, especially with ski teams and enthusiasts eager to get back on the snow.

Whether you need help choosing where to stay, advice on ski passes, or information about transfers, rentals, or lessons, I’m always happy to help.

    2. Choose rooms with mountain views—sunset or sunrise views over ridges or glaciers make mornings and evenings magical.
    3. Look for hotels that include wellness/spa in the package; sometimes a slightly more expensive room that includes spa access is better value than one that doesn’t.
    4. Check ski lift access or shuttle services, especially if weather or wind can affect lift operations.
    5. Consider the period: late February to April for longer daylight hours, better weather, while December-January offers cold, snowy magic but shorter days.

How to Pick the Best Luxury Hotel for You

To make sure your choice delivers, consider these:

    • Location: Do you want ski-in/ski-out access? How close to the lifts or village center?
    • Amenities: Spa, pools, design features, dining options—decide what matters most.
    • Atmosphere: Traditional and cozy vs modern and sleek. Do you want quiet or nightlife nearby?
    • Views & Scenery: Some hotels sit higher, offering sweeping views of the Matterhorn, while others are more tucked in.
    • Service & Extras: Shuttle service, spa treatments, ski-rental on site — these details add up.

Why Cervinia Luxury Hotels Stand Out

Cervinia is one of the “snow-sure” Alpine resorts (thanks to its high elevation), and luxury hotels here often combine alpine tradition with modern touches—wood, stone, large windows, cozy fireplaces, and gourmet food. Plus, compared to some resorts in Switzerland or France, you often get more value for luxury here. More comfort, more views, less extreme prices (though “luxury” always costs a premium).

Best Time to Book Your Luxury Stay

    • Book early: as soon as winter dates open, the top-hotels get booked fast.
    • Off-peak periods (just outside Christmas, New Year’s, Easter) can offer better deals and quieter hotels.
    • If you want sunshine + good snow + longer daylight, aim for late February to the end of April.
  • Valle d’Aosta Joins Ikon Pass: A Game-Changer for Skiers

Valle d’Aosta Joins Ikon Pass: A Game-Changer for Skiers

Good news is on the horizon for winter sports lovers: Valle d’Aosta joins Ikon Pass starting in the 2025-26 season, positioning the region among the most exclusive ski destinations in the world.

From next winter, five of the region’s most iconic ski areas—including Courmayeur Mont Blanc, Cervino Ski Paradise, La Thuile Espace San Bernardo, Monterosa Ski, and Pila—will welcome Ikon Pass holders. Full Impressions: holders of the full Ikon Pass get seven total days, while Ikon Base Pass holders receive five days—all with no blackout dates. stormskiing.com

    Why This Matters

Valle d’Aosta joins Ikon Pass marks a pivotal moment in its international ski tourism strategy. Previously, only European resorts like Dolomiti Superski and Zermatt were included. Now, with the “VdA” firmly on the map, skiers from North America and beyond can access the Italian Alps with unparalleled ease and prestige.

Among the five linked destinations, Cervino borders directly with Zermatt Matterhorn, and Courmayeur offers quick access to Chamonix via Mont Blanc tunnel—perfect for border-hopping adventures.

A Historic Step: Valle d’Aosta Joins Ikon Pass

With the official entry into Ikon Pass, Valle d’Aosta is making history. Starting from the 2025/26 season, the six most representative ski lift companies of the region – Cervino Ski Paradise, Courmayeur Mont Blanc Funivie, La Thuile Espace San Bernardo, Monterosa Ski, Pila, and Skyway Monte Bianco – will be accessible to holders of the world-famous international ski pass.

Ikon Pass, developed by Alterra Mountain Company in Denver (Colorado), currently includes 63 destinations across 11 countries and 5 continents. In Europe, until now, the network only featured top-tier ski areas such as Grandvalira, Kitzbühel, Ischgl, Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley, Zermatt, St. Moritz, and Dolomiti Superski.

The entry of Valle d’Aosta therefore represents a true recognition of the work carried out in recent years by the local lift companies, who have invested heavily in modernization, sustainability, and services. This move not only positions the region among the world’s elite skiing destinations but also highlights Italy’s growing influence in the global ski tourism market.

What It Signals for the Region

Joining Ikon Pass is not just a marketing move—it’s economic dynamite. Previous European entries like Zermatt and Dolomiti Superski saw significant increases in tourism from U.S. skiers. That same potential now shines on Valle d’Aosta, showcasing its alpine charm, culinary heritage, and scenic magnificence to new global audiences.

    Final Thoughts

In short, Valle d’Aosta joins Ikon Pass is more than a partnership—it’s a bridge. It connects iconic Italian slopes with a premier global ski community. If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring Italian Alpine traditions while skirting across Swiss snow, this is your season.
